Four in a row

One thing that I have learned this past week is how stupid of an idea it is to take the summer off. Don't get me wrong. I had a killer fn time but I am paying the price now.

Day 4 on the WLC is going strong. Diet is going great. I am not bored yet with the food and I don't have any cravings. I am focusing the first week on staying away from things I should stay away from and I am going to start focusing on portion sizes next week and beyond. One little thing at a time.

Tonight's WOD was a good one.  All about moving and not worrying about the score.

WOD
2 rounds of
2 min max reps push-ups
2 min rest
2 min max reps chin ups
2 min rest
2 min row for calories
2 min rest

My final score was 123. Had to move to knees on 2nd round and I used 2 green bands on chin ups.

WLC Day 3

Finishing up day 3 of the whole life challenge. So far so good. Day 2 was a nice 10 mile bike ride and a handful of good meals. Food is going to be the hardest part of this challenge and I don't mean not eating grains. Boredom with food is going to be rough. I did make a red bean stew with beef and pork that turned out quite nice. I had three straight meals with that and then I couldn't handle any more of it. So, it is in the fridge for another day.

Day 3 was fun. I had to complete a bunch of reviews for work (thankfully I did not wait until last minute on them). Got through in time for a relaxing lunch and opted to go for a bike ride. Hooked up on the trail system here in the neighborhood and put in a grueling 8 miles in 59 minutes. Doesn't sound like much but the hills were killer. Definitely felt the burn.

Back in the box tomorrow night assuming class is still on. Otherwise. It is a garage WOD for me. Need to hit the grocery tomorrow to stock back up on veggies. Also need to pick up a bike rack to take the bikes up to Breck this weekend.

Whole Life Challenge Day 1

I started the whole life challenge today. My buddy Kevin T asked me to join his team so I looked into it and pulled the trigger. It is an 8 week challenge of eating better and being more religious about working out.

Part of the challenge is drinking a ton of water. For the first few weeks I need to drink 160 oz per day. Day 1 has been easy because it has been hot and I have been outside fairly active. I will have to see what the next weeks will look like.

From a diet standpoint it is primarily Paleo. Some exceptions are there but it is pretty minor.  My meals for the day included:

Breakfast
3 eggs
Mushrooms
Water

Snack (at Jacqueline's softball game double header where it was not)
Beef jerky
Almonds

Lunch
Tuna Salad (Meagan put this together and it was killer. The secret ingredient is celery salt.)
Cucumber
Carrots
Romaine

Dinner
Salad with a nice hunk of thin round steak from the grill

Supplements
Fish oil
Vitamin D
Multi Vitamin

We (Meagan and I) also did the challenge WOD.

2 min of 25 yard shuttle runs (5 points per run)
1 min rest
2 min AMRAP of 5 push ups / 15 squats (1 point per rep)
1 min rest
2 min (max reps) sit ups (1 point per rep)
1 min rest
2 min 25 yard shuttle run (5 points per run)

My final score was 202 (Meagan posted a 250). The runs were tough.

Calling it a night. Still have about 20 ounces of water to force down.

Double Unders and Push Press

Solid night at the box. I am starting to get back in the swing of things and recovery is better. Whole life challenge starts on Saturday.

WOD
AMRAP
24 DUs
12 Push Press 95#
6 broad jumps

Final score was 3+26 reps. Cardio is killing me. Just need to keep pushing through it. Dropping some weight will help out a lot.

Bicycle Workout Today

Taking a page out of another's book and mixing up my workout schedule a bit.  Have had a handful of workouts at the box getting back into things (it is really painful to try and restart crossfit but I'm going to stick with it).  It was a solid night at the box last night and I'm down in CO Springs for tonight and brought my bike along to go on a bike ride with Meagan.  I also need to put some miles on this bike so that I am uber comfortable with it for when I hit the trails up in the mountain.

I'm looking forward to get a nice little sweat going.

I'm signed up for the whole body challenge which starts on Saturday.  I'm teamed up with Kevin T. (good buddy from crossfit) so I've got someone to strategize my meal plans with (my biggest weakness).  Kevin is very solid in this area so I think I'm off to a good start there.  I have already started to cut a lot out that I should not be eating.  For the most part it is a diet with zero grain (John D. would be happy to hear that) and I'll be cutting out all alcohol (except for the weekend of the Breck Octoberfest) and sodas.  I'm looking forward to it.

Three (3) WODs in the bag

While I have not written in a few days I am happy to report that I have completed 3 WODs in the interim.  After the skills WOD I went back in last week and did a WOD titled Double the Abs. Long story short it was a whole ton of double unders and core exercises. DUs have up until now been a strength but I have been out of the game too long and had to do singles. Just another thing to work on. Recovery was tough on this one. Pain until Saturday.

Sunday was great though. Decided that it was time to do a track workout. The real goal was to get my 11 yr old back out on her bike. She never expressed an interest in biking until now so I had the gun pleasure of teaching her how to ride. She surprisingly picked it up in no time flat. Meagan was coming up so we waited on her and then we went to work out. I must say I find working out with your sig other a complete blast. She is in much better shape than I am given that she has been running for years. Regardless, I had a great time.

Track workout:
4 rounds for time
Run 200m
10 KB swings (1 pd)
Run 200m
15 air squats

I finished in 22:05. Not my best but I had expected closer to 30.

Lastly, tonight's WOD was all about lifting.

Snatch grip high pulls
5-5-5

I stopped at 185 because let's be honest. It is an odd movement for me. I want to just snatch it and that's not the goal.

I bought a new mountain bike this last weekend so tomorrow's plan is to ride with my lady.

Skill workout / snatches

I have lifted a lot this summer and while my strength is still high my form is a complete mess. Snatches are one major lift that I need help on. It is embarrassing that I can power snatch 225 but I can only squat snatch 135. Mental block aside I put some time on it tonight.

Ready to get back to the box second night in a row after a long hiatus.
